Union Cabinet approves cutting LPG prices by Rs 200 per cylinder for all consumers

NEW DELHI: In a major relief to households, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved cutting the price of LPG by Rs 200 per cylinder for all consumers.

The price cut also applies to consumers enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)

meaning beneficiaries will now get a total subsidy of Rs 400 per 14.2kg-LPG cylinder.

Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur during a press conference on the decisions taken by the Cabinet.

While he did not say how the price cut would be financed, it is presumed that State-owned

The minister added the Centre will also provide 75 lakh new LPG connections for free under the Ujjwala scheme.

At present, there are 9.6 crore beneficiaries of the scheme.

"Effective August 30, 2023, the price of a 14.2kg LPG cylinder will be reduced by Rs 200 in all markets across the country.
