Matka gambling, also known as Satta

 is a form of gambling that originated in India.

It involves betting on the opening and closing

rates of cotton transmitted from the New York

Cotton Exchange to the Bombay Cotton Exchange.

The name "matka" comes from the Hindi word for "pot

as in the early days of the game,

 numbers were drawn from a pot. Today,

random numbers are generated electronically.

Matka gambling is illegal in most parts of India
